Parent's Information

Dear Parents & Guardians,

For many of you, this is your first experience with higher education, and subsequently your first experience with fraternity life. For those of you familiar with fraternities, at Missouri S&T or in general, I hope the experiences your student enjoys will be among his most positive.

A quality fraternity life experience will provide your student with some of the most rewarding and memorable experiences in college. Many of the friends he will make as a result of this experience will be with him throughout his entire life-"others will simply help shape the man your son is and will become.

Fraternity men and women at the Missouri University of Science and Technology are leaders of campus. Socially, academically, and professionally, our fraternity men have demonstrated leadership in the classroom and in their chosen field of work. Your student has joined a community of individuals who will shape the campus culture--and you should be proud of your son's choice to become involved on campus.

As you no doubt have already realized, you may have questions. Being a new member of a fraternity (sometimes referred to as -œassociate-? or -œpledge-?) is a scary term for some parents! The information surrounding payment, the social atmosphere, activities, and his eventual initiation into the fraternity post some very common questions for parents/guardians. It's not uncommon for parents to call my office with these questions, and I encourage and welcome you to call at any time.

At any time during your son's journey through fraternity life, (not just his freshman year) he has questions, concerns, or simply needs an ear to listen, encourage him to speak with me. There are various resources on campus to help your son perform at the very best level. If you are in town visiting, please feel free to stop by the Greek Life Office to talk. Congratulations on your son's achievements to this point, and any and all afterwards.

Sincerely,

The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life
